In The Studio

The recording process for the show was a very emotional experience for me as I had to go back in time to bring back the thoughts I was having in my head at that time in space. As a small child I could think in the order that you are hearing in my narration. I also wanted to make this show where the music and the narration as well as the essence of the story would all blend together as one. So I had to search for the right elements that can bring my experience alive and allow you the listener to share my thoughts and to be in my mind during that time.

I wanted to use acoustic instruments with ambients of synthesizers as this is how it felt as if I was in a dream state of mind during this time that these events took place. The first process was to write the script and get the major details of my memories as these events that you are hearing about truly happened to me. After I was able to conceive the script the music and the setting had to come next.. I started a series of recording sessions in the night and after 3 days of recording I started to find the right sound for the first chapter “Awareness” I wanted to use lavish strings and a very orchestrated background music, as looking back you realize the next chain of events that you could not see then and having a review of the story you can see just how dramatic the events would become, this was why I had to get the emotion captured just right.

The second chapter “The Introduction” it was such a silence in the room that it seemed like a sound in itself if you have ever felt that type of silence you will know what I mean. Silence in itself is a sound as there is no sound......... I wanted to use a strong bass and the solo synthesizer to bring the mental play that was coming about with the being positioned at the window. The voices in the wind as there was many as it seemed the being was a leader of sorts and seemed that souls where trapped held inside the realm of the being.

Chapter 3 “Sounds Unknown” that was a flowing work of music as the morning was so very beautiful, in that time the air was very clean and the sky was blue and not polluted, like the present times we live. The time was in the late 60's so things where still clean. The yard was very sunny and it would seem that nothing could be dark around, The music had to reflect a very warm day as my play in the sun and having my mother near..... But to bring the mysterious sounds of the darkness into the mind, as it entered into my hearing.

The 4th Chapter “Let's Play” was a truly scary and interesting time as I experience the paranormal activity first had and witness the spirit being able to move an object! The day was very warm and nice as I followed my mother during her day. So the rhythm of the drums was the pace of the day.... The voices and trumpet was to represent the play and exploration I had discovering my world around me. The voice in the middle is what the being said to me and I was able to communicate to this being as it could hear my voice either speaking or through thoughts in my mind. Again in my mind as a child I could think very logical and clear but was not able to communicate as my speaking skills where not up to a level. It was in this chapter as a child I felt frustrated that I was that a child. Wanting to grow up faster!

The night of silence... Chapter 5 was the hardest chapter to recreate as that is the part that I can remember the clearest. It seems that if you will lose a loved one early in your life, somehow the laws of the universe allows you to really burn into your mind the memories of that person you love so much. As if somehow in advance the universe or divine being knows and blesses you with the priceless memories you will carry with you for the rest of your life. This is why the music was very meditative as this night it was all mental. Very quiet not many words spoken just a time of trying to figure out what was happening. The drums had to be the rhythm of the clock ticking as my Mother was slipping away at that point. And the time was winding down on how much longer I would experience the great love of my mother. As when she passed, it was silent and where were alone and that was the point where I wanted to bring to life that silence....As the sounds fade back in to the minds that is when life becomes a blur but I could feel in my heart at that time something was very wrong. Thus the muted trumpet had to bring across the sadness and the feeling of pain as this is the feeling I had during that time.

The Return... chapter 7, it had been a while since I would return with my father to that fateful house. I guess we all had to have time to heal. The day we returned to the house my father was painting inside. That day was very beautiful and clear, it was bright and sunny, so the beginning music was to reflect that feeling of happiness and the memories of the voices and of my mother. As the most important was to fuse the peaceful day but also to present awareness in the music. To bring the final contrast of how the house had a beautiful side and the darkness that was present.

I truly appreciate you listening to my recount of that place in that epok as it still is a mystery to this day. Stay tuned for the next show.

Warm regards

Marcus
